Books of Rememberance at Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral Lectern

The Merseyside Master Mariners' Club were central to the restoration of the Lecturn and display of the books. 

The list contains those organisations that contributed to the cost of refurbishment and modifications of the Lectern in Liverpool Cathedral

Plaque at the Base of the Lectern

The book is available for inspection at the Anglcan Cathedral in Liverpool. Volumes bound in blue were also printed which lists names according to the ship on which they served. On Merseyside other books of rememberance are kept at Liverpool Parish Church and at the Mariners' Park Residential Home in Birkenhead.

The plaque gives credit to the Merseyside Master Mariners' Club and other Maritime Organizations locally to Liverpool for providing the Lectern and Display Cabinet

There are 3 volumes numbered I,II & III. The set was presented to "The Employers Association of the Port of Liverpool" by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, in February 1958. 

About Us

The Role of Honour

This Role of Honour contains the names of those members of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets who lost their lives through war service in ships registered in the United Kingdom or on Charter to the United Kingdom

Volumes I & III of the Roll of Honour

Volumes I & III contain the names of those who are commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London. One book is placed open on display in the Cathedral. The volume is changed in rotation and pages are turned as for other books of remenberance on display in the Cathedral. Those lost in the Atlantic Conveyor are also listed on the Memorial at Tower Hill.

Volume II Names of those on Memorials overseas plus those lost in the Atlantic Conveyor 1982

Volume II contains names of those commemorated by War Memorials at Bombay, Bourail, Chittagong, Halifax, Hong Kong, Port Moresby, and Sydney, and also those with known graves throughtout the world.

It also contains the names of those who lost their lives in the Falklands War of 1982  when the Atlantic Conveyor was sunk.
